rest and recover. Sound familiar? Celebrate these mythological figures
and the legendary patient care of the CRNA profession with original
concepts and designs from AANA and artist Rockland Page.

HYPNOS
Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, was the son of Nyx
(Night) and the twin brother of Thanatos (Death). He
is often depicted with wings at his brow and a horn of
opium, made from the poppy, used to send mortals
and gods to sleep. Hypnos and his son Morpheus, the
god of dreams, were featured on the 1940 AANA Seal.
TUTU
The Egyptian god Tutu was originally a protector
of tombs, but was later worshipped for guarding
sleepers from danger and bad dreams. He is depicted
on temple reliefs as an intimidating figure with the
body of a lion, a cobra tail, bird wings and a king’s
headdress above a human face. In our design, this
guardian god tramples the arrows of Sekhmet.
NÓTT
Nótt, the personification of night in Norse mythology,
is known by many names, including “night” by
mankind, “darkness” by the gods, and “joy-of-sleep”
by the elves. Dwarves call her “dream-Njörun,”
meaning “dream-goddess.” She rides her horse
Hrímfaxi across the evening sky to cloak the world in
shadows and create an ideal environment for slumber.
